Bernadette Peters

 

Bernadette Peters (nee Lazzara, born February 28th 1948) is an American singer, actress and children's book writer. In a span of over six decades she has been a part of musical theatre, television and film, and performed in concert performances as a solo artist and released recordings. Critically and acclaimed Broadway performer she has been awarded seven Tony Awards nominations, winning two (plus an honorary award) and nine Drama Desk Award nominations. She has won three. Grammy Awards have been won by four of her Broadway casting albums where she has performed.



 



 Considered by many to be the foremost interpreter of of Stephen Sondheim. Peters is especially recognized for her performances on the Broadway stage, such as in the musicals Mack and Mabel (1974), Sunday in the Park with George (1984), Song and Dance (1985), Into the Woods (1987), The Goodbye Girl (1993), Annie Get Your Gun (1999), Gypsy (2003), A Little Night Music (2010), Follies (2011), and Hello, Dolly (2018).
